The Physician Assistant Clinical Coordinator Cath Lab reports to the the Clinical Director of the cardiac Catheterization Lab and provides functions such as, but not limited to, supervision of the other cath Lab QLP’s and cardiac cath lab staff as well as scheduling of the cath lab QLP's, assisting in the Performance Assessment and Improvement and competency assessment processes, participating in the Human Resources processes including employment and disciplinary functions, providing staff education, participating in staff evaluations, promoting the role of the physician assistant, interacting closely with physicians, nurses, and other hospital staff, and providing education to physician assistants and other staff.In accordance with the Cardiac Catheterization Lab Medical and Clinical Director and Administrator, directs, and assesses the administrative operations of the Department; directs, and assesses the Human Resources Functions of the Cath Lab QLP’s.
In the Cardiac Catheterization Lab the Physician Assistant Clinical Coordinator shall provide service primarily in the Cardiac Cath Lab and Electrophysiology Lab, and patient care areas. The Physician Assistant Clinical Coordinator participates actively in the scheduling, pre-cath, admission, transfer and discharge planning process including preparation of transfer and discharge documents such as medication reconciliation forms, discharge summaries, and prescriptions. The Physician Assistant Clinical Coordinator also works closely with the nursing staff and other hospital staff in a multidisciplinary, team-oriented fashion. This includes regular dialogue regarding patient care, and providing ongoing education.
Graduate of a PA program accredited by The Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, or its predecessor; Current ACLS; Current NYS license as a Registered Physician Assistant; Basic computer skills in email, scanning, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Ability to create protocols and policies and procedures related to the newly developing cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology program utilizing evidence based practice.
Previous supervisory experience; the interpersonal skill necessary to provide effective leadership, and to develop and maintain cooperative, professional working relationships with the other Hospital departments and Medical Staff. The interpersonal and customer service skills necessary to communicate effectively with patients, family members, physicians, nursing, and other hospital personnel when exchanging patient status, care, and treatment information. Possess leadership skills when working with and giving direction to RN’s, and technologists in a clinical setting in caring for the patient. The analytical skills necessary to cost-effectively direct day-to-day operations, ensure efficient and appropriate scheduling of personnel, respond to any complex patient or personnel problem, create and manage a budget, and plan for the future requirements and responsibilities of the department. Requires the ability to recognize and address the psychosocial needs of patients and their families, and the ability and skills necessary to attend to special needs relating to patient’s age and diagnosis.
Requires the psychomotor skills, including walking, to perform examinations and procedures. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for approximately seventy five percent of work time for responsibilities such as providing patient care, operating and monitoring equipment, and recording data in patient charts. The ability to walk and stand for approximately event five percent of work time, and to lift, pull, push, and/or carry items such as equipment weighing up to twenty pounds or patients on stretchers for approximately twenty five percent of work when providing patient care. The ability to read and write effectively and the verbal communication skills necessary to lead or participate in meetings and in-service education.
