    Operating Room Educator

    Full time position, flexible hours

    The Perioperative Nurse Educator is an integral team member in the safe efficient care of the perioperative client. Conducts orientation inservice and continuing education programs designed to acquaint new employees with Hospital and /Department Specific Policies, procedures and practices. Develops and implements educational programs to meet staff needs as new procedures, and equipment are introduced to the perioperative setting. The Perioperative Nurse Educator is responsible for overseeing the orientation process from the classroom to the clinical area by working closely with the orientee, preceptor and nurse manager for the area. The Perioperative Educator's role will include education, evaluator, facilitator, charge agent, consultant, researcher and leader. She will also play an integral role in the performance improvement activities of Peri-operative Services. In addition she will collaborate with the Nursing Education Department to ensure a smooth and seamless implementation of new and/or changes to Nursing Policies and Procedures.



    • Functions as a clinical resource for staff.
    • Collaborates with staff Education Department, Human Resources, Infection Control and other departments as indicated to ensure complete orientation, inservice and continuing education as indicated.
    • Actively participates in the orientation of new RN’s and other perioperative staff including teaching, monitoring, observing and education.
    • Observes patient confidentiality.
    • Actively participates in the performance improvement program for perioperative services.
    • Utilizes the performance improvement program to document new initiates competencies and improvements made in perioperative services.
    • Collects and participates in data analysis and provides feedback for staff.
    • Promotes a working educational atmosphere which facilities collaboration.

    • Is receptive to constructive feedback in own performance. Identifies and improves own weaknesses.

    • Practices and promotes the perioperative nurse as patient advocate.

    • Uses multiple avenues of communication to disseminate information related to function and process of perioperative services.

    • Acts as staff liaison to director and other departments and units in the hospital.

    • Provides honest, direct feedback in a supportive manner.

    • Promotes a level of professionalism in Perioperative Services, which motivates academic pursuit and continuing education on part of the staff.


    New York State Registered Nurse License

    Bachelor’s degree, Masters degree preferred

    BLS certification.

    Minimum 5years hospital based experience in the perioperative setting

    CNOR certification, knowledge of AORN standards and recommended practices

    Able to prioritize, organize and present pertinent information.

    Demonstrates critical thinking skills.
